The project consists of 10 students who work together on different areas of the question-answer system to determine the best answer of any question.
The master project "GenQA" is supervised by Prof. Dr. Thomas Schneider and Dr. habil. Hagen Langer.
In 2012, the question-answering (QA) system IBM Watson attracted great attention through the victory over the best human player in the quiz show Jeopardy. QA systems are to be used in various domains in order to answer natural-language questions efficiently and reliably. Exactly one system of that kind has to be developed as part of the master project "GenQA" (General Question Answering). For this, several main tasks must be solved. Firstly, techniques of Natural Language Processing are used to analyze the questions, which entered in terms of structure and content. On the basis of the information obtained, for example, search engines or structured knowledge bases are used to determine the answers. Those answers will be evualated so that a natural-language response can be given. The aim is to develop a generally usable QA-system. For this it's possible to restrict the kind of questions and to receive the best results that are possible. This is necessary to compare the own system with others of the state-of-the-art system.
