URGENT: travel funding for WADT/CoFI 2001 at ETAPS 2001 in Genova
Dear CoFI friends,
A CoFI workshop and CoFI tutorial will take place jointly with the
15th Intl Workshop on Algebraic Development Techniques (WADT 2001) as
a satellite event of ETAPS 2001 in Genova, 1-3 April 2001. An
invitation-only meeting of IFIP WG1.3 will take place on 30-31 March
in the same place. Information about ETAPS 2001 is in
http://www.disi.unige.it/etaps2001/
Information about WADT/CoFI 2001 is in
http://www.disi.unige.it/wadt2001/
Information about the IFIP WG1.3 meeting has been sent by e-mail by
the WG1.3 chairman, Peter Mosses <pdmosses@brics.dk>, to the people
involved. There will be meetings of most CoFI Task Groups during the
workshop; the schedule and agendas of these will be announced later.
This message is about funding for travel to that event. It is urgent
because there is a
*** DEADLINE OF 8TH FEBRUARY ***
for applications to receive priority treatment, see below. I'm sorry
that it is a little long, but please do read all the way to the end if
you plan to apply for funding, in order to avoid extra work and
misunderstandings.
Eligibility for funding from CoFI WG is as usual. The rules
and procedures are spelled out in
http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/dts/CoFI-WG/money.html
You don't need to give a talk that is relevant to CoFI in order to get
travel funding, but you are expected to contribute to CoFI activity in
some fashion, for example by active attendance at Task Group meetings.
The CoFI tutorial on 1st April is part of WADT/CoFI 2001 but is also
available as a stand-alone tutorial to people who are not attending
WADT/CoFI 2001; CoFI WG funding is NOT available to such people.
The CoFI WG grant comes to an end in April and so this is the final
event for which funding is available.
*** In order to make maximum use of the remaining (limited) ***
*** funding, the application procedure has been modified to ***
*** require submission of an estimated budget for your trip. ***
See the above web page for guidelines.
Registration for ETAPS 2001 is open now; see
http://www.disi.unige.it/etaps2001/REGISTRATION/index.html
for information and an online registration form. There is a discount
for registration before 10th February. To encourage this and to
optimize use of the remaining CoFI WG funding, applications for CoFI
WG funding will be handled in two batches:
1. Applications for funding by *** Thursday 8th February ***
including the discounted early registration fee are encouraged and
will be given first preference for funding. It is expected that
applications received by this date that are approved by task group
coordinators will be fully funded, but this will be confirmed by
e-mail on 9th February.
2. If there is still money left after this date, it will be
allocated to applications for funding until the budget is exhausted.
There will be a tendency to apply reductions to the amount requested
for late and large applications.
Please note that, as with previous CoFI satellite events at ETAPS, it
is NOT justifiable to cover attendance at all of ETAPS 2001 from CoFI
WG funds. But the ETAPS registration fee can be covered in addition
to the costs of attending the WADT/CoFI 2001. The additional costs of
those attending the WG1.3 meeting preceeding WADT/CoFI 2001 can also
be covered.
So, the following expenses are permissible:
travel to/from Genova
ETAPS registration + WADT/CoFI workshop registration
travel in Genova while attending WADT/CoFI workshop
hotel Saturday - Tuesday
meals Saturday evening - Wednesday morning
For WG1.3 attendees, the following can also be paid:
WG1.3 meeting registration fee
hotel starting Thursday
meals starting Saturday evening
The following can be paid ONLY for people who are authors of papers or
demos at ETAPS 2001 that are directly connected with CoFI/CASL (in
case money becomes tight, preference will be given to the actual
presenter):
hotel while attending the rest of ETAPS
ETAPS banquet ticket
The following CANNOT be paid for anybody:
ETAPS tutorials
other satellite events
extra proceedings volumes
tourist activities
Funding is only available to people who have followed the procedures
described in
http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/dts/CoFI-WG/money.html
and claims that are substantially in excess of your budget estimate
may be only partly funded.
See you in Genova!
Don Sannella
CoFI coordinator
